World No Tobacco Day

May 31, 2016

Tobacco is the only legally available consumer product which kills people when it is used entirely as intended.
(The Oxford Medical Companion – 1994)

You just have to look down on our streets, outside of office blocks, restaurants and clubs to know that many of us are addicted to the nicotine in cigarettes. An epidemic that comes with warnings on a box, which so many of us still reach for and often with the perspective that “I’ll be the lucky one“.

Smoking tobacco puts you and others around you at risk of disease; including many cancers and non-communicable diseases. According to website; research shows that cigarettes will kill half of those who smoke.

CANSA points out that tobacco use is the single most preventable cause of disease, yet 44 000 South Africans and six million people worldwide die from tobacco related diseases annually.

Today is World No Tobacco Day – You can join millions by making the pledge to be tobacco-free in the hope of  encouraging and shining a light on the necessity for change.

Check out CANSA for more details about the day and tobacco awareness

CANSA has also created the eKick Butt Programme, a programme that supplies a series of handy tools – tried and tested – to help you quit smoking for good.

We at Selfmed want to see you live a healthy, active lifestyle, and encourage you to stub out tobacco use with us and millions around the globe today. Make it the first day of many more tobacco-free days.
