The Western Province Blood Transfusion Service on Sunday said they are in a slightly better position in terms of blood supply levels.
On Saturday, the South African National Blood Service (SANBS) said hospitals around the country were forced to put elective surgeries on hold due to low stock levels.
But the provincial office’s Marike Champion said there was enough blood to treat serious cases in Cape Town.
“Our position is not as bad, so we are fortunate to be in a slightly better position,” she said. “We really want to thank the donors of the Western Cape for supporting us and helping us to cope with the blood supply.”
