Annual increases in medical aid tariffs for service providers, pharmacies and hospital groups made under section 7 of Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases Act 130 of 1993 have been gazetted in four separate government notices.
These are notices 292 of Government Gazette 34178, 452 of Government Gazette 34314, 450 of Government Gazette 34312 and 451 of Government Gazette 34313.
In each of the notices, labour minister Mildred Oliphant prescribes the scale of fees for medical aid payable under section 76 of the act, together with the general rules applicable to these fees.
The new fees apply to services rendered on or after 1 April 2011 and exclude VAT.
Notices 292 and 452 focus on the employee and his/her medical service provider. In particular, notice 452 sets out:
· procedures for processing claims from the Compensation Fund;
· billing procedures;
· minimum requirements for accounts rendered; and
· a scale of per diem tariffs for private, psychiatric and rehabilitation hospitals.
Notice 450 of Government Gazette 34312 focuses on wound care, providing procedures and general information related to this.
Notice 451 of Government Gazette 34313 provides information on orthotic and prosthetic supply protocols, together with related administrative procedures for claims in this regard.
Notice 292 was published on 20 May, and the remaining notices on 24 May 2011.
