Els had appealed regarding contempt of court by editor Huisgenoot and magazine publishers Media24. This after the Western Cape High Court had ruled that the pair had not been in contempt for publishing an article in You magazine where allegations of sexual molestation were made against Jurie Els.

The article had been with singer Robbie Klay who had accused Els of abusing him when he was younger.

Els was acquitted in court on the charges. Els had sought an interdict to stop the interview being published and an edited version was later published before the 10 day interdict period has expired.

This prompted the initial contempt of court application.
