HIV+ man found guilty of infecting others
August 1, 2008
Sydney – An HIV-positive Australian put on “conversion parties” where he had unprotected sex to deliberately infect his gay partners with the virus, a Melbourne court was told on Thursday.
Michael Neal, 49, was found guilty of trying to infect others with HIV and is to be sentenced later this month.
Neal was told by health authorities to practise safe sex and tell partners of his HIV status after being diagnosed in 2000.
He ignored the advice, organising what he called “conversion parties” where some guests were not aware they were being infected.
He bragged about infecting 75 people and told one person he “gets off” on it, the court heard. – Sapa-dpa
