WITS UNIVERSITY WELCOMES THE APPOINTMENT OF NEW HOSPITAL CEOs IN GAUTENG
In light of the announcement by the MEC for Health and Social Development in Gauteng, Wits University and the Wits Faculty of Health Sciences in particular, wish to congratulate the five newly appointed Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of hospitals in Gauteng.
"The University welcomes the announcement and the appointments, which bring to a close a period of uncertainty regarding these critical appointments and the management of key hospitals with which the Faculty of Health Sciences is integrally involved," says Professor Loyiso Nongxa, Vice-Chancellor and Principal of Wits University. "In particular, we congratulate Ms Johanna More, the newly appointed CEO of Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital and Dr Tiego Selebano who has been appointed as the CEO of the Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital as these hospitals serve as the Faculty's major clinical training platforms."
Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, Professor Helen Laburn comments: "The Faculty has always sought to partner with the senior management of the academic teaching hospitals in their efforts to provide environments which are safe, patient-centred and conducive to clinical practice and teaching. The Faculty will continue to pursue its positive, constructive working relationship with the new incumbents."
She adds: "We are also pleased that discussions have re-commenced between the Faculty and the Department, to speed up the implementation of the Memorandum of Agreement, signed in 2008, between the Department and the health faculties at Gauteng universities. This development will also strengthen the numerous collaborative efforts between the Department and the Faculty, and lead to better and clearer ways of working together, especially with the new hospital management teams."
The Faculty also strongly supports the MEC's project - 'Operation Kuyasheshwa-la' which will bring under the spotlight the quality of services delivered in hospitals, including the Faculty's teaching hospitals. "We commend the MEC for this initiative and look forward to contributing towards better service provision and an environment conducive to working and learning at the highest levels," concludes Laburn.
